Top Three Exercises For Stress Relief
Whether coming from our jobs, personal life, incompetent drivers, or the soaring gas prices stress seems to be all around us, bombarding us with an over load that has us over worked, cranky, and restless.
The effects of prolonged stress on the human body can be devastating to our health resulting in migraines, muscle aches, insomnia, digestive problems, high blood pressure, diabetes, weight gain, asthma, and heart disease along with a wide range of other health problems. Learning to effectively manage stress and adding regular exercise to your routine is a valuable part of stress relief which is vital to good health.
But do not worry, you do not have to make time to go to the gym or worry if your fitness level is not up for that aerobic work out, here are three of the best exercises for stress relief than can be done by just about any one at any fitness level, of course as always, before beginning any new exercise program you want to be sure that your health care provider has cleared you for exercise if you have any recent injuries or health care concerns.
Tai Chi:
Tai Chi is an ancient martial art form. This Chinese art has been practiced for centuries and is a perfect exercise for stress relief. Tai Chi uses very fluid and graceful movements that are slow and precise, focusing the mind and strengthening the body. It can be done just about anywhere by people of all ages and is fairly simple to learn. People who practice Tai Chi experience a better sense of balance, over all improvement in health, sleep better, and feel a since of clarity and improved mental focus along with the stress relief.
Pilates:
Pilates was originally developed as a method of rehabilitation for injured dancers and soldiers. Incorporating simple moves similar to yoga in parts, pilates stretches and lengthens your muscles, improves the strength and stability of your core (the torso), and is also very calming and soothing making it a great choice for stress relief. Stress relief is not the only benefit of pilates, you also get a longer, stronger spine, better posture, more graceful muscle tone, and stronger abs. And because a large portion of pilates can be done as a mat work out, it is great for people with special needs to consider that may make traditional exercise more difficult.
Water Aerobics:
If you would like something to get your heart beat going and improve your over all tone and health, along with giving you stress relief, water aerobics is another great choice. Unlike traditional aerobic classes, being in the water lessens the impact of the movements on your joints, legs, and spine. Being in the water makes your motions effortless, yet the resistance of the water provides a better, stronger work out. The calming sensation of being in the water offers great stress relief and gives you a wonderful work out for your muscles, weight loss, and cardio building along with the stress relief.
Whichever routine you choose, or perhaps some combination of the three, you will find great stress relief from starting a regular routine and the stress relief will only enhance the other great health benefits you will obtain.

Massage as a Stress Relief Therapy
Stress has various effects on people, mostly detrimental. Feeling stressed physically is often a result of strained or tired muscles. When one is stressed, the blood circulation is reduced and this blocks both oxygen and nutrients from being distributed to the brain and the entire body.
To loosen up the muscles and increase blood circulation, you can get a massage as a stress relief therapy. Using massage as a stress relief therapy helps release toxins from the body. There are several massage techniques that are very effective as stress relief therapy. These are the following:
Deep-Tissue Massage
Oxygen and nutrients are blocked when the muscles are stressed. It leads to inflamed muscles due to toxins building up in the tissues. A real good massage targets the cause of this ailment because this massage concentrates on the muscles and tissues around them to get the blood circulating properly. This stress relief therapy will help release the toxins that are harmful to the body.
Acupressure
Acupressure is also a popular massage technique that is commonly in stress relief therapy. Similar to acupuncture, this technique uses points in the body meridians to relieve pain. Acupuncture uses needles while acupressure, as the name suggests, uses pressure by utilizing the fingers, thumbs and elbows. A very low electrical current is sometimes used also. This technique helps release tension in the muscles by applying a certain amount force and then releasing it to send the blood back to the tissue. Acupressure also releases energies located on this points that promote good health.
Swedish massage
This stress relief therapy is the foremost massage technique taught in schools. The Swedish massage technique uses mild strokes on delicate and bony body structures like the face, hands and feet. Stronger, harder strokes are applied over thickly muscled areas like the neck and shoulders.
Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu massage is a form of acupressure. This technique uses pressure while applying long strokes over the energy fields of the body. According to those who practice this ancient form of stress relief therapy, the strokes are just as important as the opening of the pressure joints. This technique uses joint manipulation, joint rotation and stretching to heal the body, mind and spirit. Shiatsu massage can also be performed while you are soaked in warm water. Warm water actually helps the muscles to relax.
Similar to beauty and medical treatments, different and new massage techniques are emerging these days. A good example is the warm stone massage that uses heated lava rocks for a soothing experience. With all the different types of massage that you can use as stress relief therapy, feel free to try any of them to relieve your body from stress.

Feel Better With Stress Relief Games
You and I know there are numerous medications available to help relieve stress. But why not also consider the non-medicinal stress reducers available. Stress relief games are a marvelous way to enthrall your mind and take away some of the pressures of life.
Reducing stress doesn't have to mean spending tons of money on therapy or drugs or possibly even self-help groups. It can be as simple as going for a walk, playing catch with your kids, or a variety of other games for stress relief.
Or it may be as simple as pulling out that unused deck of cards and playing a game of solitaire. How about taking on the Sunday crossword puzzle or some Sudoku? Or maybe you have unopened jigsaw puzzles crammed in the back of the closet or board games that have been collecting dust. You can enjoy stress relief with all these games.
Take a break for 5 or 10 minutes and enjoy a stress relief game. Health care professionals say taking your mind off of the source of stress and focusing on something totally different for even a few minutes is very helpful and beneficial to your health.
Maybe you're computer savvy and enjoy using the Internet. If so, there are many games available on-line that will tantalize your mind while busying your hands. Some of the favorite on-line games are Solitaire, Fly Swatter, or Mong Jong. You can find a game that is simple but compelling or one that is difficult and mind-boggling. Playing the game of your choice will create a thought process that doesn't entail everyday stress and therefore will ease your mind . . . and the stress you're experiencing.
If you find yourself in a large group setting there are many stress relief games perfect for a crowd. Some of the favorites are softball, baseball, horseshoes, bocce ball, and croquet. These games are a wonderful source for relief from everyday stress but yet they build strength and team work. During the games you'll be able to burn up negative energy as well as absorb some natural sunlight and breathe in some fresh air.
If in a smaller group setting you may want to try some personal type games such as "Liar, Liar" where each person makes up three or four things about themselves and the other members of the group need to decide what is true and what is not. Or, "Who Likes What" where each member of the group writes down what they like in certain categories. The lists are then given back to the leader and read aloud. Once the lists are read the other members of the group try to decide who the list belongs to.
And of course the ever popular charades, Pictionary, or the multitudes of popular board games for a gathering of friends are all wonderful stress relief games.
Games played within a group setting can also create bonds and be good ice-breakers for folks who just met. Relaxation sets in and the entire group feels at ease with themselves and one another. And although group gaming can be competitive, it also makes the members feel equally adequate to one another.
If you have children, your stress will affect them. This is another good reason to take time each day to interact with them in play. You may decide to toss the ball back and forth, shoot a few hoops, or even throw the Frisbee but, no matter what you choose, you will alleviate your stress and get closer to your children. You may even decide to sit down with them and color or read or even teach them a new skill. The enjoyment you derive will outweigh the stress of the day and your face with light up with a smile.
There are many types of stress relief games. Use your imagination, your creativity, and your desires as you select games for stress relief to calm your mind. Remember, life is meant to include fun and games.
